About Us

The Fishers church of Christ is an established church offering worship services to the Fishers community.  We have a core membership of seasoned Christians dedicated to expanding the cause of Christ.  Our love for God and for each other strengthens us daily and inspires us to reach out to all.  We know that many people are hesitant to attend worship services at an unfamiliar church.  To help alleviate any apprehensions you may have regarding this congregation, we would like for you to know who we are and what you can expect when you visit our services.

A Church of Christ

Jesus promised His apostles, "Upon this rock I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18).  It was not founded by any man, but by the Lord Himself.  The Bible says, "Except the Lord built the house; they labor in vain that build it" (Psalm 127:1). Therefore, the church belongs to Christ.  The scriptures teach that Jesus bought the church with His own blood (Acts 20:28).  The congregation at Fishers wears the name of Christ to glorify our Savior to whom we belong.  There are several descriptions of the church in the New Testament, including "church of God" (1 Corinthians 1:2), "churches of Christ" (Romans 6:16). "body of Christ" (Ephesians 1:22-23), "house of God" (1 Timothy 3:15), and "kingdom of God's Son" (Colossians 1:13).

Our Evangelist

In the New Testament, the "evangelist" held a very important role among the "churches of Christ." The apostle Paul said it best in Romans 10:14; "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?" Paul spent many years not only preaching in local churches, but also instructing other ministers, such as Titus and Timothy. Among the many instructions he gave them was this exhortation: "If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed." (1 Timothy 4:6).

Our Elders

As taught in the New Testament, the Fishers church of Christ is led by elders (1 Timothy 5:17), who act as shepherds of the spiritual flock. Elders are also called pastors (shepherds) and overseers (Acts 20:17,28). These men are selected by the local congregation on the basis of qualifications found in the Scriptures (Titus 1: 5-9 and 1 Timothy 3: 1-7). We are blessed to have four qualified individuals who serve as elders.

Our Deacons

At the Fishers church of Christ, we have appointed men who serve as deacons for the congregation. There is a biblical position in the local church for "deacons," which simply means "servants" – but it is not a position of authority in a local church. The New Testament gives examples of both "appointed" servants selected by the local church to specific tasks (Acts 6:1-6), as well as other servants who serve the Lord in a general sense in a local church (Romans 16:1).

Our Members

Members of the Fishers church of Christ are just ordinary people: your friends, your family members, your neighbors, or your business customers. We are people of all ages who strive in every way to be the church Jesus said He would build in Matthew 16:18. We learn from the New Testament that this church was established in the first century.
